About us
Lord Leycester Lodge 7889 was founded in 1963 and is named after the hospital established by Robert Dudley, Earl of Leycester, in 1571. The hospital is one of the best preserved examples of medieval courtyard architecture in England and is a charity supporting ex-servicemen.
The hospital was created for aged or injured soldiers, known as ‘Brethren’, who come under the charge of a ‘Master’.
Today the hospital is run by a retired officer of the Armed Forces. Eight ex-servicemen and their wives are provided with flats in return for their past services: they act as guides for visitors. The hospital is funded by visitor income, the original estates having been sold over the years. Heidi Meyer, the first woman to hold the office, was installed as Master in November 2017.
Lord Leycester Lodge 7889 meets in Warwick, but was born in Coventry. Its inception was as a result of a number of Masons being unable to attend their respective Lodge’s Class of Instruction. To overcome this issue they decided to form their own at a doctors surgery belonging to one of the members.
Over time discussion naturally turned to the difficult task of creating a new Lodge entirely, given the growth in membership of the Class of Instruction. The class size outgrew the doctors surgery and eventually moved to the lounge of one of the members and also a classroom in the local primary school!
With the help of St Mary’s Lodge acting as sponsor, Lord Leycester Lodge 7889 was consecrated on 8th May 1963.
All members of the Lodge since that day carry with them pride that they are part of a Lodge that was born from the hard work of its founders, who were all united in a need to hone the craft they love.

Lord Leycester Lodge 7889 is the only Freemasons Lodge meeting on a Saturday night at Alderson House in Warwick.
We are a young Lodge compared to some of the distinguished company we share Alderson House with, but despite our young age we are very well known throughout the Province.
We are in a period of growth, with new members having joined in the last year, and more on the horizon. Due to this, there is opportunity for members to progress at their own pace, whether you see yourself as a future Master of the Lodge or just want to socialise with new friends.
We do not take ourselves too seriously and we can guarantee your Masonic journey will be filled with a healthy dose of humour.
We have members from all different walks of life, so conversation at our meetings is never dull! There are members who have been there and done it all in Freemasonry, so you will have the best guidance possible as you find your way around in this historic organisation.
Alderson House is also known throughout the Province for the quality of its food, and our visitors never go home disappointed.

We hold a summer function during the masonic “off-season”, which has previously included bbq’s and a day at Stratford Races.
During the Masonic year we hold 2 “open-evening” functions, (where non masons like family and friends are welcome). These are at our December meeting, where we have a Christmas dinner and a silver band playing carols. Also we have a Valentines function in February which has entertainment such as a cabaret magician and a harpist.
