About us

Holte Lodge No. 1246 celebrated 150 years of Freemasonry in 2019. The name Holte is of great age in the area of Aston, Birmingham. The commissioner for the Aston District was one Thomas Holte, an eminent lawyer and also Chief Justice of Wales. The family crest of the Holte’s – The squirrel – is appropriately the crest of Holte Lodge No. 1246 . It also became known widely known throughout the midlands as a trade mark of a famous Brewery Company and was acquired by them when purchasing Holte’s Brewery Company in Aston in 1934.
Today, we are a thriving Lodge with 37 Members from diverse backgrounds, cultures and occupations including Police, Social Services, Architects, Financial Planners, Electricians and Builder Merchants to name Whilst we take pride in the excellent ritual we practice in the Lodge room, experienced brethren are always on hand to help and support those who wish to develop their ritual skills and progress their Masonic Journey.

Why Join Us?

We meet in Knowle just off Junction 5 of the M42, close to Solihull. The lodge rooms were refurbished within the last 5 years. We have excellent facilities including a Bar, Restaurant and a spacious Lodge room which, when full, can accommodate around 80+ Brethren. Our experienced caters provide a great variety of good food enjoyed by everyone. Recently 10 Members from Hope and Saint Alphege Lodge joined us when they handed in their warrant. Members of both Lodges attended each other’s meetings over a period of time and found there was a natural synergy. It worked and everyone benefited.
We meet during the winter months. Meetings start at 6.00pm, convenient for most who work, dine at around 8.00pm, normally finishing around 10.00pm, not too late for people who have to travel. Visitors to the Lodge always receive a warm and friendly welcome, many return, which speaks well for the Lodge.
We strongly believe Masonry is a hobby to be enjoyed by all our brethren, everyone contributes in different ways. We celebrate that and very much hope that if you join us you will share in that bond of friendship. Importantly our families also join us at our Christmas Meetings and other social occasions which we hold during the summer months.
