About us
Athelstan is a very friendly and inviting Lodge to be part of. Our purpose built Lodge room is an excellent example of the Historic facilities required for our Ceremonies and Ritual work. The lodge room is easily accessed and public parking is available some 100 meters from the building. We dine at the Red Lion Hotel which is again, approximately 100 metres from the Lodge rooms. We are a Dining Lodge meaning dining fees and Lodge Subs are paid up front at the beginning of each Calender year although arrangements are available to help spread costs.
Why Join Us?
Having celebrated our Sesquicentenary in 2020, Athelstan Lodge is steeped in history dating back to its original formation on Thursday 21st July 1870, when a preliminary meeting was held at the house of the then Secretary Brother TG Tippets, the Warrant of Constitution arrived in October 1870and the new Lodge was Consecrated on 18th November 1870 at the Town Hall in Atherstone, since then the Lodge has met in the Corn Exchange in Longs St, The Old Masonic Rooms in Long St, The Three Tuns Hotel, Mancetter House, Atherstone Memorial Hall, Masonic Hall Newdicate Place Nuneaton (2 meetings in 1988) and now in its current home, thanks to a local businessman, in a superb Lodge room at the rear of the old Liberal Club in Long St.
Our membership is varied in terms age, ranging from early twenties to early nineties. Masonic experience which range from new initiates to Senior Officers in the Province of Warwickshire; and types of employment ranging Tradesmen, NHS Staff, the Armed Forces, Prison Service staff, solicitors and business owners, not to mention Professional Gardeners and IT Specialists.
All Initiates will have the services of our Lodge Mentor for continued advice and guidance and, in most cases, a personal Mentor will be assigned for additional help and support.
We are a thriving Lodge which, like many others, have felt the effects of Covid but now begins to benefit from the concerted efforts to rejuvenate the popularity of this wonderful Institution.

Charities we have supported
Over the last few years we have supported many National and Local Charities including Fisher House, a residential facility for the relatives of service men and women treated at the QE2 Hospital in Birmingham, the Dementia Society, Parkinson’s UK, The Salvation Army, The British Legion, The Leading Players a local drama group working together with adults with learning difficulties, Doorway a local charity supporting the homeless, Cohort 4 supporting vulnerable women, the Hurricans a local under 12 football team, the Salvation Army, Merevale church and many more.
