35 Years Apart… United by the Apron

by Philip Hall, The Head of Freemasonry in Warwickshire

Composite Lodge in Rugby witnessed a truly memorable evening that perfectly captured the marvellous world of Freemasonry and a remarkable juxtaposition of beginnings and long-standing dedication.

On the same night that the Lodge proudly welcomed a brand-new Brother into the marvellous world of Freemasonry, it also celebrated an extraordinary milestone: sixty years of loyal service.

We extend a very warm welcome to Brother Ben, who took his first steps on his Masonic journey in the company of supportive brethren and a Lodge rich in tradition. For any new Mason, initiation is a moment that will be remembered for a lifetime: the start of friendships, learning, and personal growth that can span decades.

And decades indeed were celebrated that evening.

I had the pleasure of presenting a 60-year long service award to Michael Lovie, recognising six decades of unwavering commitment to the Craft. Initiated in 1965, some 35 years before Ben was even born, Michael’s journey stands as a powerful testament to the enduring bonds and values of Freemasonry.

To see the newest initiate and a sixty-year veteran side by side in the same Lodge room is a vivid reminder of what makes Freemasonry so special. It bridges generations. It unites men of different ages and backgrounds. It honours the past while continually building for the future.

From first steps to lifetime dedication, the evening was a celebration of continuity, fellowship and the timeless spirit of the Craft.

You’ve got to love Freemasonry!
