True Brotherhood in Action: A Story of Dedication and Compassion
Andy Hare, Master of Square Wheels Lodge and a prominent member of the Mike Hailwood Lodge — the Masonic Lodge for motorcycle enthusiasts — recently demonstrated the very essence of Masonic brotherhood and selflessness.
In early July, Andy received distressing news: his close friend and fellow Mason, Bob Fellowes, had suffered a stroke while on a motorcycling tour in France. Without a moment’s hesitation, Andy jumped into his van and set off down the M40, heading for the cross-channel ferry to France.
Partway through the journey, his van broke down — but Andy refused to let this setback stop him. He quickly called in a favour, borrowed another van, and continued his journey without delay.
Covering all costs himself, Andy crossed the Channel, located his friend, and brought both Bob and his motorcycle safely back to Sutton Coldfield, where Bob could receive proper care and be reunited with his loved ones.
This extraordinary act of kindness and commitment is made all the more inspiring by the fact that Andy is currently undergoing an intense course of chemotherapy, following months of major surgeries and treatment.
Andy’s actions are a shining example of the Masonic spirit — brotherhood, compassion, and unwavering dedication in the face of adversity.
