A Century of Brotherhood: Boldmere Lodge Celebrates 100 Years

Boldmere Lodge No. 4704 has proudly marked its centenary, commemorating 100 years of Freemasonry with a rich history and enduring traditions. Since its consecration on 23 May 1925, the Lodge has welcomed 250 members and seen 85 different Worshipful Masters take the chair.

One of the Lodge’s most cherished traditions began in its earliest days. At an early meeting, members agreed to create a ‘Special’ Master’s apron, a unique item designed to record the names of each Worshipful Master. Each Master signs the apron on the night of their installation—a custom that has been faithfully upheld to this day.

The Lodge’s centenary was celebrated in a poignant ceremony on 29 May 2025. Philip Hall, the head of Freemasonry in Warwickshire, presented the centenary certificate from the United Grand Lodge of England to the current Worshipful Master, Graham Holt. The presentation marked a moment of reflection and pride for all those connected with Boldmere Lodge, highlighting a legacy built on commitment, fellowship, and service.

Following the formal proceedings, members and guests gathered for a festive board that paid homage to the Lodge’s founding event. The five-course meal was a faithful recreation of the inaugural banquet held in 1925, blending tradition with celebration. Taking pride of place at the centre of the room was a bust of Boldmere Lodge’s first Master, George Pearson – an enduring symbol of the Lodge’s roots and the leadership that helped shape its journey.

During the proceedings, Worshipful Master Graham Holt presented the Provincial Grand Master Philip Hall with a cheque for £1,000. The donation was made to the Warwickshire Tercentenary Appeal in support of Fisher House, a facility providing accommodation for military families at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

As Boldmere Lodge looks ahead to the future, its members remain dedicated to the principles of Freemasonry that have guided them for the past century—brotherhood, charity, and integrity. The centenary is not just a celebration of the past but a reaffirmation of the Lodge’s enduring role in the Masonic community and beyond.
