About us
Our Chapter was consecrated in 1949, in the wake of the Second World War, a time of hope and of new beginnings. The Lodge of St Andrew No 4056 had been going for some 30 years as a masonic home for Scottish-born Freemasons. Many had moved south to work in the Birmingham and Coventry areas.
The Brethren of the Lodge, together with those of Thistle Lodge No 5064 in neighbouring Worcestershire, felt it important to continue the Scottish traditions into a Royal Arch Chapter – and that ethos remains to this day.
Although the Chapter welcomes members of all nations, races and creeds, we still maintain the Scottish mindset which fits in so well with Freemasonry: all are born equal and to be equally respected. Visitors find the Chapter of St Andrew to be refreshingly honest and without fuss. Whilst we pride ourselves on conducting ritual meaningfully and to the best of our abilities, we don’t stand on ceremony and conduct ourselves openly and with sincerity, regardless of rank and fortune. Some Companions don the kilt or tartan trews, whilst others stick to the dark suit.
Our Festive Boards are full of fun and banter, oftentimes accompanied by the unmistakable sound of the bagpipes escorting Brother Haggis, that Great Chieftain o’ the Puddin-race, to the table. Whilst the accents vary around the room, the overwhelming voice is that of Scotland.
We welcome Master Masons who want to take a further advancement in their masonic knowledge, as well as Royal Arch Companions who wish to visit us and see what we get up to, to have a good time amongst friends, and perhaps consider joining us on a permanent basis.
