Freemasons Unite Across Three Provinces to Support Acorns Children's Hospice
Freemasons from Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Staffordshire came together in June for a remarkable display of community service, volunteering their time and skills to transform the gardens and outdoor spaces at Acorns Children’s Hospice in Worcester.
Known as the “123 Project” – representing 1 Aim, 2 Days and 3 Provinces – the initiative saw volunteers working side-by-side over the weekend of 13 and 14 June 2026 with a shared purpose: to create welcoming, accessible and enjoyable outdoor spaces for the children and families who rely on the hospice’s vital services.
The project brought together Brethren from across the three neighbouring Provinces, demonstrating Freemasonry’s enduring values of friendship, service and community engagement. Armed with gardening tools, mowers, strimmers and plenty of enthusiasm, volunteers tackled a wide range of tasks including weeding, landscaping, tidying and general maintenance.
What began as an ambitious plan quickly exceeded expectations.
The transformation of the hospice grounds was nothing short of remarkable, creating outdoor areas that children and their families will be able to enjoy throughout the summer and for years to come. More importantly, the work helped provide precious spaces where families facing some of life’s most challenging circumstances can spend valuable time together.
The project also attracted wider attention, with representatives from the United Grand Lodge of England’s Solomon Live team and BBC Hereford & Worcester highlighting the positive impact being made through Freemasonry in action.
Reflecting on the success of the weekend, organisers praised the dedication of every volunteer who gave their time to support the initiative. Their collective efforts demonstrated what can be achieved when Freemasons work together in partnership with their local communities.
Following the success of the Worcester project, plans are now being developed to carry out similar volunteer weekends at the other Acorns Children’s Hospices serving the three Provinces, including the hospice in Selly Oak, Birmingham, which serves Warwickshire, and the hospice in Walsall, which serves Staffordshire.
The Worcester project has provided a blueprint for future collaboration and shown the lasting difference that can be made when Freemasons unite behind a common cause.
The 123 Project may have begun with one aim, over two days and across three Provinces, but its impact will be felt by countless children and families for many years to come.
