Warwickshire Royal Arch Benevolent Fund Supports Make Them Smile Charity
by Rod Hinton
When the national children’s charity Make Them Smile called for support in purchasing equipment to give two young girls the chance to experience greater independence, inclusion, and dignity, the Warwickshire Royal Arch Benevolent Fund (WRABF) was eager to make a donation.
Make Them Smile is dedicated to assisting children under the age of 18 across England and Wales who live with a wide range of adverse medical conditions, including Cerebral Palsy, Leukemia, and sensory impairments. The charity provides essential practical and emotional support, ranging from the provision of specialist disability equipment and home adaptations to offering much-needed respite breaks at their adapted holiday homes in Mablethorpe and Skegness. Their mission is to help children with life-hindering conditions lead more fulfilled and enriched lives.
This mission was put into action through the support of two local youngsters:
- Alina (12) has Autism and is non-verbal. Without a voice, her ability to express herself and interact with others was severely restricted. The provision of a specialist communication aid has now given her a voice, allowing her to express her needs, feelings, and communicate with her family, peers, and teachers – granting her a new level of independence in everyday life.
- Maryan (15) has Cerebral Palsy and is Quadriplegic, experiencing profound physical limitations. Specialist sensory equipment will now provide her with essential stimulation and relaxation, helping to reduce anxiety and improve her overall quality of life while supporting her ongoing development.
Thanks to the generosity of the Royal Arch Chapters in Warwickshire donating to the WRABF, we were able to make a substantial donation to supply both sets of equipment. By partnering with charities like Make Them Smile, we continue to help provide the “extra” support that significantly enhances a child’s daily experience and well-being.
