Rugby Freemasons Give Charity a Lift
Rugby Lodges raise £2,500 for the Air Ambulance before taking a behind-the-scenes look at its lifesaving operations.
A group of acting Provincial officers from both the Craft and Royal Arch, together with members of Rugby Lodges, enjoyed a fascinating visit to the air ambulance base at Baginton Airport, Coventry.
The visitors were welcomed by the staff and crew, who provided a guided tour of the facilities and explained the vital role the air ambulance plays in supporting the NHS and responding to medical emergencies across Warwickshire and Northamptonshire.
Behind the Scenes of a Lifesaving Service
The visit offered a valuable insight into the skill, teamwork and resources required to operate this essential emergency service.
With each call-out costing approximately £4,600, the visitors learned just how much goes into getting the helicopter airborne and delivering urgent medical care to those who need it most.
Every mission requires a highly trained team, including the pilot, who is responsible for flying the helicopter and identifying a safe landing site, and medical crew members who coordinate with emergency services on the ground.
Once at the scene, the doctor can provide potentially lifesaving treatment, often before the patient reaches hospital. Meanwhile, the crew liaises with the receiving hospital, ensuring medical staff are fully briefed and prepared for the patient’s arrival.
For those taking part in the visit, it was a powerful reminder that every successful mission depends on the dedication and professionalism of the entire team, both in the air and on the ground.
A Barbecue That Really Took Off!
The visit also provided an opportunity to see first-hand how the generosity of Warwickshire Freemasons is making a difference.
Earlier in the summer, Rugby Lodges joined forces to organise a fundraising barbecue in support of the air ambulance.
With plenty of food, drink, entertainment and even some enthusiastic line dancing, the event proved a tremendous success, bringing together members, families and friends for an enjoyable day in support of a very worthwhile cause.
Thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, the event raised a magnificent £2,500 for the Air Ambulance.
During the visit, Chris Robotham had the pleasure of presenting a cheque on behalf of the combined Rugby Lodges, recognising the outstanding efforts of everyone who contributed to the fundraising.
Supporting Those Who Save Lives
Everyone who attended the visit commented on how interesting and informative the experience had been. Seeing the helicopter, meeting the crew and learning about the complexities of each emergency response brought home the importance of supporting this remarkable service.
The £2,500 raised by Rugby Lodges is a wonderful example of Freemasonry’s commitment to supporting the local community and the organisations that make such a difference to people’s lives.
Congratulations to everyone involved in organising and supporting the barbecue, and a huge thank you to the air ambulance team for the warm welcome and the extraordinary work they carry out every day.
