In case anyone needs a refresher, we work with The Goodwill Partnership which offers a free Will-writing service. We also enable those willing, to leave a gift in their Will to the Masonic Charity Foundation MCF. A gift in your Will is an incredible way to contribute to the ongoing work of the MCF and support individuals in need and the work of other charities. Legacies have a profound impact on the lives of those we support. Through them, we are able to provide essential care and support where it is needed the most.

“Without a Will, the administration of your estate will take longer to deal with and will be dealt with by a number of intestacy rules that may not match how you would have liked your estate to be distributed. It is your testamentary right to make those decisions yourself. A Will is your insurance policy that, when the time comes, you can choose how to protect your loved ones and/or leave a gift to charity.” – Duncan, Legacy Manager

Since the last Free Wills Month in March this year, we’ve caught up with who made the decision to write or update a Will through our referral to The Goodwill Partnership. We were touched by their stories – here’s one of them:

Following a bout of H3N2 virus, Gordon had his life turned upside down and had to rely on support from his wife, who is now his full-time carer. We helped Gordon through providing the funds to purchase a powerchair and we covered the costs associated with it. This really helped Gordon in gaining back some of the mobility that he had lost. Moreover, with the other challenges he faces, we funded his care related items.

Wanting to give back and help others who are in a similar situation to him, Gordon found out about the Free Will-Writing Service offered by the MCF with The Goodwill Partnership. He was very thankful for the support he received from the MCF but unable to donate much currently, Gordon decided to leave a gift in his Will to the MCF.

Gordon is one of 813 individuals we have referred to The Goodwill Partnership, successfully creating their Wills since 2018, including 134 so far in 2024.

We understand there is a widespread reluctance to start the process of writing a Will, with fewer than half of UK adults having written one (National Wills Report).
