About us
Trinity Royal Arch Chapter No 254 was consecrated in 1894 and has continued to operate successfully ever since.
We currently possess around thirty members, of whom the majority are Past Principals; but ten or so are junior Companions up to and including the three Chairs, so there is ample opportunity for new Exaltees to progress actively at a sensible pace through the various offices.
We meet three times a year (on the third Tuesday of October, December, and February) at Coventry Masonic Centre, Dalecote House, 165 Warwick Road, Coventry CV3 6. Our meetings commence at 6.00 p.m. and there is a festive board afterwards which usually ends around 10.00 p.m.
There are separate officers’ meetings; and we hold occasional social functions including an annual joint lunch with Trinity Lodge at an outside venue to which wives, partners and guests are invited.
The rooms include a splendid temple, separate bar and dining areas and contain all necessary facilities including a modern lift. There is also ample parking. All this enables us to enjoy excellent fellowship.
Trinity Chapter ritual adheres strictly to normal Warwickshire Working which may hopefully encourage members of other Lodges, local or otherwise, to apply to join us.
If at any time a Companion has any difficulty in learning his ritual, he will be encouraged to contact any senior member of the Chapter for assistance, and this will be given him readily and in a most friendly fashion.
Trinity Chapter does endeavour to deliver its ritual to a high standard, because this is not only for the benefit and enjoyment of new Exaltees but for all Companions present, including our guests who we welcome with open arms.
We already comprise all ages, types of work occupations and diverse backgrounds, in true masonic tradition; and our aim is to continue this inclusiveness.
In conclusion, therefore, if you are a prospective candidate for the Holy Royal Arch, please consider us for your home venue; and if you feel you need to know more about our ceremony or activities, please either approach any of our members already known to you or contact our Scribe E (Secretary) as detailed below.
Why Join Us?
Trinity Chapter was consecrated on 21 June 1894, making it one of the oldest Masonic Chapters in England.
Brief History of Trinity Chapter 254
On the 10th of October 1801, the Royal Cumberland Chapter No.18 was taken by certain brethren of Trinity Lodge No.382. This Chapter was chartered to meet at the ‘Bull’ York Street, Westminster, on the 8th of October 1779, but had declined. It agreed to transfer its Chapter and equipment to the aforementioned brethren.
The chapter continued to meet in Coventry under the same name and number until 1827. There are no records relating to R.A. Masonry in Coventry between 1827 and 1871, except for two extracts from the history of Trinity Chapter, which states that ‘the Cumberland R.A. Chapter No. 1827 was founded in London in 1779, transferred to Coventry and attached to Trinity Chapter, but retaining its original name and number’. This chapter flourished for a time but was erased in 1891 by the Grand Chapter.
1871 saw the successful founding of Trinity Chapter 1630, largely through the efforts of the 1860 WM of Trinity Lodge, W.Bro. John Ashley, who was also MEZ of Shakespeare’s Chapter No.284, meeting in Warwick. The Chapter continued to work under its name for 23 years. In 1876, it became actively concerned in persuading the Trinity Lodge to petition for a new Lodge to be set up in Coventry and to be named ‘St Michael’s’.
In 1893, Trinity Lodge became concerned that its Chapter “Had become attached to St Michael’s Lodge No 1630”.
The upshot was that Supreme Grand Chapter, on petition, permitted the Chapter to be attached to St. Michael Lodge. The original warrant was endorsed accordingly, and it met under a new name and number in 1894.
After these events, Trinity Chapter turned its attention to the question of a new chapter and accordingly, in 1894, the appropriate proposals were adopted to form a Royal Arch Chapter to be attached to and bear the name and number of Trinity 254.
Thursday, 20th of September saw the first Convocation of the Chapter held at the Craven Arms Hotel,Coventry.
What makes Trinity Chapter 254 Special?
Apart from its rich masonic history and tradition, we aim to enjoy our masonry, build strong friendships, and help raise funds for worthy causes.
