About us
Alma Mater Lodge Profile
As one of the largest and oldest lodges in Warwickshire, Alma Mater prides itself on raising money for charity and creating an environment of making good men better. We celebrate the success of our excellent ceremonial work with a high spirited, good humoured, fraternal festive board.
We were founded in 1876 and were originally founded for the professors and students of Birmingham University.
We at Alma Mater enjoy our ritual work and pride ourselves on delivering a sincere, genuine and meaningful experience for our brethren. We are always encouraging our brethren to take part in our ceremonial work at their own pace and without pressure so that they may maximise their own development and enjoyment of the craft.
For Alma Mater, our festive board is renowned across the province of Warwickshire as a celebration of the work done in the lodge room. Our energy, vibrance and camaraderie will always ensure that every member and visitor will have a good meal, great conversation and a memorable experience, with a few songs thrown in for good measure.
Alma Mater meets six times a year in the centre of Birmingham on friday nights between October through to April. We have a busy social calendar of events that are for friends, family and partners to enjoy all year round. Our lodge has close to 40 members currently, with a diverse range of ages, backgrounds and cultures. With our youngest members in their early 20s to our eldest being into their 70s
Our Ideal candidate
To be an ideal candidate for Alma Mater we are looking for members who are open minded and inquisitive about growing themselves as a person but also someone that would like to build a wide circle of friends and positively contribute to our lodge and the wider community.
Why Join Us?
Alma Mater is renowned for working hard in our ritual but playing harder in our festive board (sit down dinner).
If you’re looking to finish the working week with a song, a toast to friends and maybe an after party – in the centre of Birmingham – then we are the lodge for you.
